My Smiles
December 6th, 2009 In the last Observations of Life I wrote about how I enjoy good comedy. This can include the funnies that I read in the newspapers, a comedy movie, books of jokes and humorous stories, collections of comic strips, comedians and more. And I can enjoy many different styles and levels of comedy. I can laugh at a simple joke that I never heard before told to me by a seven-year-old child. A sophisticated or intellectual long-winded tale with an unexpected punch line can also tickle my cerebral funny bone (strange metaphor). Good humor is healthy for your body and mind, it makes you feel good, and is just plain fun. But I will admit that I have been getting very tired of what I will call negative or bellyaching humor. That is humor I hear from any comedian that starts out with complaints about something. The comedian will tell of something that they think is personally upsetting. A little of this can go a long way with me. I find it strange that these comedians make a living trying to be funny when everything is upsetting to them. They seem to lead such dark lives. There are some who wear all black, almost as to emphasize this darkness, themself, and their performance. To this I say, “Enough already!”
I am just going to share something a little different in this week. These are the things I enjoy in life, have fun with, and that make me smile inside and out. Some of them may seem a little strange to you, but that’s OK because it’s my list. Also, it is not to make you laugh, but maybe to give you a smile or two. Some of these are lighthearted and some very heartfelt. So my Observation of Life this week is just a list of some of the things I have found that make me feel good about my life. It’s not all touchy/feely. There’s guy stuff listed, too. Again it’s just my list. I will suggest that this can be a good exercise for anybody. Please note that these are in no particular order.

- Calvin and Hobbs.

Well that’s my short list. And even after I finish this, I will think of many more. Some not mentioned may have more meaning and/or importance, but it is a start. Maybe I will continue at a later date. I am thankful for all the smiles I have been given. I hope this made you smile a little too.
